Tesla Powerwall 3
All-in-one battery and solar inverter with whole-home backup.
Capacity
13.5 kWh (expandable to 54 kWh)
Power
11.04 kW
Warranty
10 years
Installed price
£7,000–£8,500
Overview
The Powerwall 3 is Tesla's third-generation home battery and the first to integrate a solar inverter directly into the unit, so a new solar-plus-battery install needs no separate inverter. With 13.5 kWh of usable LFP capacity and up to 11 kW continuous AC output (15.4 kW peak), it can start heavy loads rated to 185 A LRA (ovens, EV chargers, heat pumps) without breaking a sweat. It is the strongest choice for whole-home backup and for homes that want one powerful unit, and it can grow later with battery-only Expansion units.
Pros
- Up to 11 kW continuous AC output (15.4 kW peak), enough to run heavy loads
- Built-in 20 kW solar inverter (3 MPPTs) cuts hardware and install cost
- Seamless whole-home backup during grid outages
- Expandable with battery-only Expansion units (up to 7 units / 94.5 kWh)
Worth knowing
- Higher upfront cost than most rivals
- Backup Gateway 2 required (and adds cost) for backup operation
- Single large unit, less granular than modular systems for small homes
Best for
Larger homes that want the most powerful single unit and seamless backup
