This policy explains how My Energy Expert Ltd ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores, and shares your personal data when you use the My Energy Expert website and comparison service. We are committed to handling your data responsibly and in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
My Energy Expert Ltd is the data controller for personal data collected through myenergy.expert. If you have any questions about this policy or our data practices, you can contact us at hello@myenergy.expert.
2. What data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data:
When you submit a quote request:
- Name, email address, and phone number
- Postcode and property information (type, ownership, roof orientation, shading)
- Energy usage information (monthly bill estimate, EV ownership, existing solar)
- Your installation interest (solar panels, battery storage, or both)
- Consent record and timestamp
- UTM source parameters if you arrived via a marketing campaign
When you use our website:
- IP address and browser/device information (via server logs)
- Pages visited and time on site (via Google Analytics 4, subject to your cookie consent)
- Cookie data (see section 8)
When you contact us:
- Name, email address, and the content of your message
3. How we use your data
We use your personal data for the following purposes:

4. Who we share your data with
We share your personal data with the following third parties:
- Matched installers (maximum 3): We share your name, contact details, postcode, and property/energy information with up to 3 MCS-certified installers for the purpose of providing you with a quote. Each installer acts as an independent data controller and processes your data under their own privacy policy.
- Supabase: We use Supabase to store and process lead data. Data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt region). Supabase is certified under ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II.
- Resend: We use Resend to deliver transactional emails (confirmation and installer notifications). Resend processes your email address and name for this purpose only.
- HubSpot: We push lead data to HubSpot for CRM purposes. HubSpot is GDPR-compliant and processes data under a standard Data Processing Agreement.
- Google Analytics: If you consent via our cookie banner, we share anonymised browsing data with Google Analytics 4. This data is not linked to your quote request and does not identify you personally.
We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We do not share your data with more than 3 installers per quote request.
5. How long we keep your data
We retain personal data for the following periods:
- Quote request data: 2 years from submission, or until you request deletion
- MCS certificate and commission records: 7 years (legal/financial record-keeping requirement)
- Contact form submissions: 12 months
- Analytics data: as governed by Google Analytics' retention settings (default 14 months)
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Erasure: ask us to delete your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Restriction: ask us to restrict processing of your data
- Portability: receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@myenergy.expert. We will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with how we handle your request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
7. Security
We take the security of your personal data seriously. We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, row-level security on our Supabase database, and access controls that limit who can see personal data to authorised team members only.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we take all reasonable steps to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Cookies
We use cookies on this website for the following purposes:
- Essential cookies: Required for the website to function correctly (e.g. session state). These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4): Help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Only set with your consent.
You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie settings banner. Withdrawing consent will prevent analytics cookies from being set but will not affect essential cookies.
9. Children
Our service is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have received data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. International transfers
Some of our third-party service providers (including HubSpot and Google) may process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we rely on standard contractual clauses or the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) to ensure an adequate level of protection.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be signalled by an updated date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
