Is home battery storage worth it in the UK in 2026?
Home battery storage lets you store cheap electricity, either from your solar panels or from the grid at off-peak rates, and use it when prices are highest. With time-of-use tariffs now widely available, a 10kWh battery can save £550–£850 per year even without solar.
Paired with solar, the case becomes even stronger. A typical 5kW solar system without a battery exports around 40–50% of what it generates: electricity you're paid around 15p per unit for, versus the 26p+ you'd pay to import it. Is there VAT relief on battery storage in the UK?
